Make Money Online- the baby steps part 29

In this part of our guide, “Make Money Online- the baby steps part 29″, the time has come to dissect what makes a really great piece of writing. We realize there has been a lot of focus on content, but that is only since we believe that is what is going to make or break most websites. The internet is growing at a mindblowing pace. The competition for visitor´s attention is fierce. We believe quality will outshine quantity any day of the week, and even more so in the future, when the quantity on the web will be of even greater magnitude. The way to do go is to build a website of high quality, and yet focus on reaching a reasonable quantity. You want people to come back. Not only because they like your writing, but because there is always more of it to digest. This brings us to the trade-off that is present between the two different kinds of content.

There is writing that is always relevant, content that will simply last the test of time. And then there is that other kind of writing, the time-sensitive content that has a shelf life of days or weeks. If you are looking to build a serious resource you need them both. There is a difficult trade-off to be made here. Fresh, time-sensitive content will make your site appear to be in touch with the news flow out there. Most visitors will feel that your site is updated frequently and this will keep them coming back for more. But doing too much of this time-sensitive writing can also hurt you in the long run. In most part this is because you will become a slave under your daily work load of writing this new content. Another thing to consider is that you are not really expanding your “balance sheet” of material. All great economic minds know the importance of trying to expand the balance sheet. Grow the assets that you control and you can have the world, if enough time passes. Writing time-sensitive information only, is not a good way to increase your website´s balance sheet. You need to complement your time-sensitive writing with writing content that will stand the test of time. You can´t be reinventing the wheel the whole time. You probably won´t have the energy to do that, at least not on your own. You need something to lean back on. Something that will do its fair share of pulling the website´s weight.

What would happen to your website if you for some reason couldn´t update it for a long time? Would it wither away, since they were only relying on fresh content? Or can you take a semi-break and trust the fact that your older time-insensitive content would be able to step up to the plate and hold the fort while you regrouped your forces? As you might tell, you need a good mix of these two types of content. Too much of one or the other would probably hurt you. The way to go for most websites is to have a larger share of time-insensitive content, and add some time-sensitive content to spice it up and get the juices of those frequent visitors flowing. How you allocate your work between these two types of content is really up to you. To a large extent it will be dependent on how much time you have, but also what type of website it really is you are trying to create.

Mix up your content. It will be appreciated by both your visitors and yourself in the long run, and it will ensure you keep your website fresh while simultaneously building the “website balance sheet”. In the next part of our guide we are going to provide you with a list of common denominators held by successful internet entrepreneurs that we know personally.
